- STUDIO ONE AND SOFTUBE TAPE WINDOWS
As most Softube plug-ins, Tape is uniquely light on your computers processor. It has any flavor of tape you could possibly need and the special fx are worth the price alone. This is tape, done perfectly. Yes, your computer will be able to handle it. Tape is one of those tools that almost any pro-engineer will likely be happy to rely upon to help smooth the spackle and glue a producer’s song into a warm, cohesive product. Artists and labels employ engineers for a reason – because when they’re done with a track it just sounds better. Its sound and bias response is so subtle that under congenial operating temperatures and without critical listening experience or aptitude you’ll wonder if it’s even on. As well as the standard ‘Tape’ they will get the option of a MixFX variant called Tape Multitrack, with makes available selectable crosstalk between individual tracks and control of all instances of the plug-in from one GUI. Reaper still is amazing, and I love it, but Studio One adaptation was effortless. Presonus Studio One owners get a nice little sweetener with this plugin. Havent had a single crash with in large sessions, the workflow both for mixing and songwriting is fantastic.
STUDIO ONE AND SOFTUBE TAPE TRIAL
Tape is the perfect example of a plugin that you can buy from almost any manufacturer yet you should probably consider Softube’s version to be the yardstick. After loving to use Reaper daily since 2019 I decided to experiment last week with Studio One Professional trial just for fun.
STUDIO ONE AND SOFTUBE TAPE SOFTWARE
They imbue their software with a high level of charm and the sound quality is always undeniable. Softube Tape is a plug-in that captures the feel and sound characteristics of three distinctly different tape machines. The knob controls the amount of saturation, and you can switch between three different distortion characteristics.

Saturation Knob is an easy-to-use, versatile way to add tape-saturation-like distortion to your tracks. On my machine, Tupe has now replaced just about every other saturator/analogifier/tape-simulator/vintage-vibe-injector I have.Time and again Softube release plugins that have been done to death by other devs but end up proving the adage that you can never have enough of a good thing. The plug-in is provided in a Studio One Extension, and it is not necessary to create a Softube account or authorize the plug-in. Its brilliant EQ-Emphasis tandem is a design of unparallelled "near-the-red-or-into-the-red" character-shaping power. With Tupe, on the other hand, you can actually do something that *does* make a difference (as small or as big a difference as you like or need) and be *very* precise with it too. Unless you wanna go for a caricature of what you imagine ‘tape’ is supposed to sound like, of course. This tape-simulation fad, and the beneficial impact these type of plugins are supposed to have on your sound is often a bit silly (and self-delusional), in my opinion.
STUDIO ONE AND SOFTUBE TAPE WINDOWS
If I were to do a blind-test, I guarantee the results would prove to be a rude awakening, and very sobering. We have identified an issue with VST 2 iLok plug-ins and the Softube plug-in with Studio One v1 on Windows 10. And I doubt I ever will again.Īlso: with too many of these tape simulators, there’s rather a lot of fooling-yourself-that-you-can-hear-a-meaningful-difference, I find. Granted, that's on an older Mac.) Used them a few times since I bought two of them, but that was weeks ago. (If I load two instances in the same session, there’s hardly any computing power left to run something else too. The IK’s are pretty good, but not worth the massive CPU sacrifice, in my opinion.
